Sony has quietly launched a lighter PlayStation 5 model in Australia. The company raised the prices of PS5 in some select markets due to the high global inflation rates like Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia and North America. Now, the gaming console manufacturer released a lighter version of PS5 in Australia. Here are the details about the lighter PlayStation 5.
A new lighter PlayStation 5 released
An Australian-based gaming site reported that Sony produced a lighter model of the disc and digital versions of the PS5. New models began appearing in Australia this week. While there is not an announcement by Sony, no one knows why both models have dropped in weight again.
The new disc model (CFI-1202A) now weighs 3.9kg (8.6 pounds), a 7% reduction from the 2021 revision (4.2kg / 9.2 pounds) and an even bigger 13 percent reduction from the original model (4.5kg / 9.9 pounds). Sony also reduced the digital PS5. Now, the 2022 revision weighs 3.4kg (7.5 pounds), down 13 percent from the original weight of 3.9kg (8.6 pounds). According to the counts, the new disc model now weighs the same as the original digital PS5 model.

Sony has not announced the reason for lighter PlayStation 5 models. However, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said last year, that the company was considering various solutions to help it cope with the global shortage of hardware components, including potentially altering product designs. New lighter models could be a kind of solution.
